In-Person Option and Virtual Option

On September 17, 1920, at Ralph Hay’s Hupmobile dealership in downtown Canton, Ohio, owners representing 10 professional football teams met, organized and formed the American Professional Football Association. The name was changed to the National Football League in 1922.

For the past century, the NFL has grown in popularity and become a fabric of our culture. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to come to Canton to run?

A: No. You can register as a virtual runner and run at home wherever you live. We will send you your event shirt, finisher medal, and race bib one week before the event. You simply run and let us know what your time was. We will include you in the Virtual Run Results

Q: Why would I want to come to Canton to do this run?

A: The 5K is part of a larger planned celebration of the first 100 years of the NFL. There will be a variety of activities here in Canton that will be family oriented and fun! Our course will be based in Downtown Canton and the new Centennial Plaza. The race itself will be really cool as we take you through 10 decades of the NFL along the course and past the actual location where the NFL was born. The in-person race will also have great overall and age group awards. Most importantly we want to run together in a safe environment so look for our NEW safety procedures!

Q: What about the COVID-19 situation? Will this race even be approved?

A: We honestly don’t know. We will follow all of the State of Ohio mandates regarding Mass Gatherings and Sporting Events. Our approach is to offer an in-person and virtual option to participate. If conditions allow us to run in-person here in Canton, that will be an option. If conditions dictate that we can’t run together, we will have everyone run virtually. As a runner you have full control of whether you want to run with us in-person or are more comfortable running alone at home. We will know more as the Summer progresses and will keep everyone in the loop. You can decide which type of runner you want to be up until 1 week before the race.

Q: What do I get with my race registration?

A: You will receive a limited-edition event shirt, a large finisher medal, a very unique race bib, and a safe and family friendly event. Post-race activities including food, beverages, and entertainment.

Q: Who benefits from this race?

A: The event is part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Marathon series. We have selected the Timken Family Cancer Center at Aultman Hospital as our race benefactor.

Q: I am not a runner. Can I walk the event?

A: Yes. There is not a time limit to finish the race here in Canton. We encourage everyone to participate.

Q: What are the awards and prizes for this race?

A: In addition to the normal Top 5 Men / Women and Top 3 in age groups 1-12, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 and over. We will award every 100th finisher in both the in-person and virtual events a special prize.
